Upcoming Artists : GLD
Based in my home state of Connecticut, a new trap duo going by the name of GLD has been making waves in the dance music community. With their recent signing to A-Trak’s label Fools Gold, GLD has copious amounts of new music to be released in the near future.
I had the opportunity to speak with Jake Gold about their duo and future plans earlier this week. I first wanted to know how the two came together, to which Jake responded that Matthew and himself “had been friends for a while because of being in bands throughout high school.” Jake “had a recording studio at the time and recorded his band”. Jake and Matthew both had “producing side projects.” he further explained “… we both got along and started hanging out, and even started a couple bands together. It wasn’t until I came back from my first semester of college though that we hung out again and started GLD.”
“We both played pretty much every position in the bands.” said Jake “Although, I would say our main instruments are drums for me and guitar for Matt. We played a ton of genres too. From hardcore to death metal to pop punk – Matt even toured with one of his bands!”
Jake also told me that they both have been vocalists in bands before. These two definitely get around with their music. “I’ve been into music and playing drums and piano since I was 3 – I’m sure if you ask Matt he’ll say the same thing. But music didn’t get serious for me until around 8th grade or so. I’d say I’ve been recording and making music for 7-8 years now.”
When asked about up coming plans, it wasn't much of a surprise to me considering how far they've come already. Jake said "...Growing our movement mostly. We have some big collabs that are gonna come out as well as the EP on fools gold. Then we have plans to start throwing shows and doing our own events nationally if things all pan out. All just trying to grow the unify music movement and bring good music no matter the style to the forefront."
I personally haven’t even been more excited to see where these two end up in the future. I will be sitting here writing to you all by next year, with a smug hipster attitude saying “Oh, yeah, I remember seeing those guys before they were famous playing at an EDM club night at Toad’s Place in New Haven, CT”. In the meantime, check out their latest remix for ManMan Savage "Takin Shotz" and a sneak peak of their upcoming song Donald Trump!
