The BASSMENT - Virginia's EDM Headquarters
The Bassment is a Virginia based promotional company whose origin can be traced back to the small city of Fredericksburg, VA in the early months of 2014. The Bassment was born out of the idea of filling the gap in a market that had not yet seen the underground side of electronic music. The Bassment’s rise to success has not been easy for this very fact. It’s one thing to take a market already introduced to the music and give them more of what they want but it is another thing entirely to take a secluded market and give them what they didn’t even know they wanted.
Starting as a joint venture of a few Fredericksburg DJ’s who wanted to play the music they were passionate about, The Bassment flourished early on quickly grabbing the attention of DMV promotional powerhouses like Badass Raves. KC’s Music Alley gave The Bassment the perfect jump off point because of its underground feel and key geographical location centered between the major hubs of Washington, DC and Richmond, VA. The first major party came in January of 2014 when CRNKN was booked to headline and the tune of 600 people came to check out the thing that had the town of Fredericksburg buzzing. The success of this event was quickly followed by the massive success of Motion Fredericksburg supported by Badass Raves in which 1200 people were taken on a journey led by the fastest growing bass music artist at the time, Ookay.
Many successful shows later, The Bassment, began its expansion to other markets in the DMV area. Through throwing shows and providing 3 rd party services to other promotional companies in the area, The Bassment has worked with rising underground artists such as Downlink, Dieselboy, Dotcom, Victor Niglio, Megalodon, Luzcid, Midnight Tyrannosaurus, Reid Speed, DJ Aphrodite, and many more. The Bassment now calls The Canal Club in Richmond, VA its home venue but it’s office stays close to its roots in Fredericksburg. A sold out showcase during SXSW this year in Austin, TX showed that this small company could jump in the ring with some of the best companies in the industry and still come out on top.
Although some of the faces of the company have changed over the years, the main goal of The Bassment and its staff of unifying people through music have stayed the same. The way The Bassment and its staff have achieved this has been by creating an environment where patrons feel safe, accepted, and part of the family.
Anything is possible for this company limited only by the imagination of its management, staff, and others that now call The Bassment home. The Bassment team led by Tre Justice, Matthew Rocholl, and Alex Ferraro is currently working on expanding into other outlets of the industry through a new umbrella company they are working on. More details on this to come soon but rest assured this doesn’t mean the end for The Bassment but rather something bigger that does not just rest on the shoulders of a great party but expands into a positive movement to better peoples’ lives through the healing power of music.
